You Ve Likely Never Visited This Stunning Stretch Of Sand Hidden Along The Hawaiian Coast

With approximately 750 miles of stunning coastline, the Hawaiian Islands are home to hundreds of incredible beaches with fine white sand, crystalline turquoise waters, and palm trees swaying in the breeze. On Oahu alone, you can discover more than 125 different beaches sure to please, and while we love the entire island, our favorite beaches are undoubtedly found along the island’s windward coast.

This stunning stretch of coastline is home to countless beaches that have received worldwide attention, including Waimanalo, Bellows, Kailua, and Lanikai. But this area is also home to off-the-radar beach parks like the one we’re sharing with you today.

Most people, including Oahu residents, have likely never visited Kaiona Beach Park, at least not on purpose: but that all ends today. This stunning stretch of sand absolutely deserves a spot on your Hawaii beach bucket list.

Situated just south of Waimanalo Beach at the base of the Ko’olau Mountains, this small 4-acre beach park features calm, crystal-clear water, fine, white sand, a grassy area, and an ancient Hawaiian fishpond.

Translating to “turtle fence” in Hawaiian, the walls of the Pahonu Pond can be seen during low tide. Legend has it that a former chief enjoyed turtle meat so much that he had the pond built in a way so it maintained a constant supply of live turtles. The ocean bottom of the fishpond is sandy and is an excellent place for swimming.

In fact, the entire beach is a swimmer’s paradise. The calm waters make this an excellent option for both novice swimmers and keiki.

The waters at Kaiona are an incredibly vibrant turquoise color, and on a sunny day, the water is so clear that you might think you’re swimming in a pool rather than the ocean. The name Kaiona, which means" attractive sea" in the Hawaiian language is quite fitting.
