Unalaska is a small island in the Fox Island group of the Aleutian Island chain.

Joseph / Flickr Before the island was fortified in 1941 as Dutch Harbor Naval Operating Base and Fort Mears, it was the residence of over 1,000 Aleut in 1759. The Aleut had more than 24 settlements on the island before the Russians landed.

Now the island is famous for one of its largest economic exports, the King Crab.

The Grand Aleutian Hotel, the largest hotel on the island, has a couple of restaurants that get great reviews!
