Some adventures in the Mountain State lead to the most unexpected of places, like an official Hatfield Farm and distillery located a good distance from the hotbed where the world-famous feud between the Hatfields and McCoys transpired. If you were to drive from that part of the state, let’s say where the grave of Devil Anse Hatfield is found in Sarah Ann, to this hidden farm and distillery in West Central West Virginia, the journey would take a little over two hours.
The destination is a picturesque farm located well off the beaten path. Using the correct lingo, we’d describe this journey as traveling over a ridge and then down into a hollow until you arrive at the front gate (always open) of the Hatfield Farms — home of The Sweeter Side of the Feud Distillery & Winery.

If you’ve ever wanted to have a reason to travel up a holler (sorry, hollow) in the heart of West Virginia, then this is a perfectly legitimate excuse.

The farm and distillery is owned by Mark Hatfield, great, great grandson of THE Devil Anse Hatfield — and from the moment you meet him, you’ll know you’ve never met a nicer man.

Sit down, have a taste of the original Hatfield moonshine… a recipe that was handed down from father to son, and then to his son (Mark).
