Any day spent among nature is a great day indeed. Fortunately, North Carolina has a wealth of places to get purposely lost in the wild for the day (you see 10 of them here) and some of them are a bit more daring than others. When you’re feeling gutsy, yet want to shy away from truly dangerous trails (most people do!), head to Eno River State Park for a hike the whole family will love.
Once inside the state park via the Few’s Ford Access, you’ll find the trailhead at the Few’s Ford picnic area.
alltrails/Christa Evans The hike takes you up and over Cox Mountain with an elevation gain of 270 feet. It can get a little steep, but slow and steady will get you there.
At nearly the beginning of the trail you’ll find a daring footbridge.

Eno River State Park has several access points. The Few’s Ford Access is where you’ll find the trailhead. It’s open year-round beginning at 7:00 a.m. This park access closes at different times depending upon the month.
