The Hawaiian Islands are home to approximately 750 miles of stunning coastline, and hundreds of unique beaches, but there is perhaps no greater destination for a summer Hawaii beach trip than Oahu’s north shore. The waves that crash against the shore in the winter should be reserved only for experienced surfers, but the summer months bring calm, flat waters, perfect for the entire family to enjoy. This stretch of sand, in particular, is one of our all-time favorites.
While many locals flock to Sunset Beach for — you guessed it — sunset, it is quite the magical spot during the day as well, and, truth be told, you’ll want to spend the entire day soaking up the sunshine and making a splash at this legendary Hawaii beach.

Located between Waimea Bay and Turtle Bay along Oahu’s north shore, Sunset Beach has been one of our favorite Hawaii beaches for as long as we can remember — for more reasons than simply its namesake.

Surfing and body boarding are popular in the winter months when intense waves crash against the shore, while swimming and snorkeling are best enjoyed during the calm summer season.

With restrooms and showers located across the street in the Sunset Beach Support Park (also an excellent spot to park) as well as several food trucks within walking distance, Sunset Beach is quite convenient.

Whether you arrive bright and early in the morning or make your way to Sunset Beach in the afternoon after exploring the nearby town of Haleiwa, you absolutely must stay for sunset.
