Do you want to know one of the (many) reasons I love South Dakota? It seems like even though certain American and world history events did not actually occur here, we still pay tribute to them in one way or another. A great example of this is the Berlin Wall tribute, which is one of only a few in the world:
Located in the heart of Rapid City is the beautiful Memorial Park and its haunting Berlin Wall Exhibit.

Installed in 1996, the exhibit was inspired by a traveling Berlin Wall expo and has since become a staple for the popular park.

While the Mount Rushmore State has no obvious ties to Berlin, the exhibit has become a city favorite, bringing in visitors from both near and far who want to touch a piece of world history.

In addition to the concrete barriers themselves, there are a few different plaques placed around the walls that explain the history and significance of this time period.

When you visit the Berlin Wall Exhibit, make sure to set aside time to check out the remainder of Memorial Park, which also houses separate memorials to Black Hills veterans and those lost in the Flood of 1972.
