Maryland is full of marvels, from natural wonders to man-made structures. Today, we’re featuring a local tree that used to be one of the largest in the US. Now, it’s preserved to pay remembrance to its once wondrous size. Come see what’s left of Maryland’s majestic Wye Oak at Wye Oak State Park. There’s no other place quite like it.
You’ll find Wye Oak State Park in Talbot County.

This little known park is home to what was once the largest white oak tree in the United States. It was over 400 years old, some say up to 460 years in age.

Nature lovers would travel from all over to see the massive and majestic tree, known as Wye Oak. Tragically, it was destroyed during a thunderstorm in 2002.

Today, you can still visit the site, where a new tree has been planted in the place of Wye Oak’s remains. Perhaps one day this little tree will grow even larger and older than its predecessor.

You can also see a portion of the original Wye Oak, which has been beautifully preserved and centered in a pavilion. Come pay your respects to this natural wonder, which we will never forget.
