Winchester Lake State Park is the definition of an oasis and you’ll find it hiding out in north-central Idaho just north of Grangeville. This lovely state park boasts a little bit of everything for everyone, and it’s well-worth a visit.

Encompassing 418-acres, there’s definitely a whole lot to discover in this beautiful park. From fishing and hiking to camping and picnicking, the opportunities are truly endless.

visit to Winchester Lake makes for the perfect day trip. Although, you could spend several days immersing yourself in the park’s magical beauty. Lucky for us, the park is home to over 70 campsites so you can do just that.

Of these campsites, 46 are serviced and 22 are standard. There are also three ADA campsites. Most excitingly, the park boasts four yurts that are available to rent Memorial Day through Labor Day. And yes, they are just as dreamy as they look!

Of course, the highlight of visiting the park is getting to see Winchester Lake. The man-made lake was created in 1910 when a lumber company constructed a dam at the headwaters of Lapwai Creek. Not only is it stunning, but it’s a hot spot of recreation.

Anglers love Winchester Lake for its abundant fishing opportunities. Game fish that are regularly found in the lake include rainbow trout, bluegill, tiger muskie, yellow perch, and largemouth bass.

Canoes are available to rent by the park when the water temperature is 58 degrees or above. However, the recreation definitely doesn’t end at the lake! Hop on one of the park’s many trails, picnic in a shady spot, or stake out a spot for wildlife viewing.
