Built in 1904, the church once served Day County’s many European immigrants, especially a group of Free Lutheran Norwegian-Americans who helped to found and organize the church.

Since the church itself was founded in 1893, its parishioners originally worshiped in local homes and schoolhouses, but managed to raise enough funds for not only the church, but on-property cemetery.

Sadly, by the 1940s, the congregation of the church began to dwindle, as families moved to other parts of the state in search of work.

By 1953, Zoar merged with another nearby church, which led to its closing in 1960.
