Whether you’re an amateur or a more serious cave explorer, West Virginia’s Germany Valley is enough to pique your interest. The uniquely high elevation of this upland valley in The Mountain State literally means it rests on the top of mountains. Among avid spelunkers world-wide, Germany Valley is known for the 100 or so caves found throughout the valley, not the least of which is the amazing Seneca Caverns.

The floor of Germany Valley rests at 2,100 feet in elevation. At Seneca Caverns, you can travel a little more than 165 feet below the valley to explore a cave that’s millions of years old.

Privately owned, Seneca Caverns has been open to the public for tours since 1928 — so long, in fact, that generations of West Virginia’s children have visited the caverns only to return with our own offspring for another visit.

A well-lit pathway winds through the spacious cavern. Tours last approximately one hour and are led by experienced and knowledgeable guides.

The entire family can marvel at the mystical formations and entire rooms found within Seneca Caverns. Many of them have been given fun names like, “fairyland,” and “the back room.”

Travel under the Germany Valley into places that look like another world altogether. After, dine in the (above-ground) restaurant, purchase a keepsake in the gift shop, or mine for precious minerals in the Cavern’s gem mining attraction!
