Looks can be deceiving. This unassuming little restaurant in the shadows of City Park in the Navarre neighborhood may not look like much from the outside, but inside they’re churning out some of the most unique, flavorful dishes in the city, and it’s time you popped on over to give them a try.
Tucked away in the Navarre neighborhood between several hauntingly beautiful cemeteries lies a delightful little neighborhood restaurant with a fascinating history.

The building was built in 1936 and originally stood on the banks of the New Basin Canal before it was moved to its current location in 1951. The building was the former Third District Police Station for over 50 years. The police station had five holding cells, which can still be seen in the restrooms and the office, a nod to the buildings past.
But that’s not all.
Rosedale/Facebook The building itself isn’t the only historical significance, but the land where the building stands today was previously home to the Girod Asylum, which was built in 1870, which eventually turned into the Colored Waifs Home, which is where the legendary Louis Armstrong first learned to play the trumpet in 1913.
