Beltrami Island State Forest is a huge forest that crosses three counties in norther Minnesota. The forest stretches more than 700,000 acres!

Despite its name, the forest is not on an island. It is named after the tiny spits of land that once dotted the bog that covered much of the area.

Manmade structures at the park are also interesting. The historic Clear River Fire Tower rises high above the forest. It was originally used to spot wildfires from above.

The Penturen Church is also within the forest boundaries. Originally built in 1926, it now stands as an unusual landmark deep in the forest.
