Alaska has countless bodies of water, including lakes, rivers, and streams. Out of all this beauty comes some pretty spectacular waterfalls. There are some famous ones, including Nugget Falls in Juneau, and Horsetail Falls outside of Valdez. But there’s something pretty special about hiking a lesser known trail and coming across a secret Alaska waterfall!

There’s a little known trail only a 20 minute drive outside of Alaska’s largest city.

Wyatt Parrish / AllTrails The South Fork Falls Trail in Eagle River is a secret little spot that many don’t know about. Even though Anchorage is so close, you won’t see too many people on this trail when you head out!

These falls are 60 feet of cascading beauty.

Wyatt Parrish / AllTrails At a mild elevation of 500 feet, the trail to get to the South Fork Falls is easy and very accessible. It’s a straightforward .7 mile loop from start to finish.

The trail is mostly flat, with little elevation gain.

Right before the bridge is a smaller, less trafficked trail.
