Mazomani Trail is a beautiful trail in the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge. You’ll find the trail, a part of the Louisville Swamp area, just outside Jordan, Minnesota.

Mazomani is a loop trail just over 5 miles in length. While it is not paved, it is maintained throughout the year. You’ll easily find your way through the trees and tall grasses.

The trail is lush in the summertime. With a canopy of trees over you, you’ll feel like you’re in your own little world.

The trail also offers beautiful water views. As you walk, you’ll catch glimpses of a lovely, slow creek.

You’ll have the chance to see enormous boulders left by retreating glaciers thousands of years ago.

If you’re lucky, you’ll even see animals — or at least signs of them. Beavers, birds, deer, and many other critters make their homes here.

But perhaps the most unexpected sight is the remains of an old farm. One of the old sandstone buildings was topped with a new roof in the early ’90s.

But most of this farm has fallen to ruin. It was once occupied by the Jab family over a century ago. Today, the crumbled buildings are all that remain.

Hike up the Mazomani Trail to see the ruins. Combined with the unique landscape of the swampy wildlife refuge, it makes for a fascinating day trip.
