From the top of Mount Washington to the shores of our 13-mile coastline, there are so many ways to appreciate nature here in New Hampshire. While winter is great, it’s summer that we love most. This is when being outside feels like a necessity and when we can truly explore everything this great state offers. While you’re doing your own exploration this season, be sure to look for some of the off-the-beaten-path things. This unique state park should be on that list!

Rhododendron State Park is located in Fitzwilliam, New Hampshire near the Massachusetts border.

It’s named for the 16-acres of Rhododendron Maximum found within it.

With a .6 mile trail that includes portions mde of a wooden boardwalk, this is one of the most accessible parks in the state.

The Rhododendrons bloom in July and viewing them up-close is a beautiful experience. The trail allows for lots of places to stop and view them. And, of course, there are lots of photo ops!

This Rhododendron grove is the largest in northern New England and it was was named a National Natural Landmark in 1982.

As you walk along the trail, you might notice a wildflower trail adjacent. This is another great way to enjoy the area. And, it’s even better when the fall foliage comes out to create a beautiful contrast in color.

You can enjoy the park at any time, but keep in mind that outside of the summer season you won’t find rangers.

Rhododendron State Park is open all the time, but you’ll only find comfort stations and rangers here in the summer. An entry fee of $4 (adults) and $2 (children) must be paid on summer weekends.
