If you’re a fan of bicycling, hiking, or both, you’ve likely explored your fair share of local trails. While there’s plenty to be said for a short-distance trek, many outdoor enthusiasts dream of traversing the United States in all its glory. These dreams might soon become a reality with the introduction of an incredible trail system that’s sure to delight adventurers of all ages.

In early 2019, the Rails-To-Trails Conservancy (RTC) unveiled detailed plans regarding the development of an incredibly extensive trail network across the USA.

In its 30 years of existence, the RTC has worked tirelessly to provide hikers, bikers, and tree-huggers with incredible access to outdoor spaces throughout the country.

Its crowning achievement, however, might just be the creation of The Great American Rail-Trail, which is expected to extend from Washington, D.C. to Washington state.

While plans are still in progress, the trail is expected to cross 12 states and offer adventurers of various skill levels to embark on an incredible journey.

The strength of the Great American Rail-Trail lies in its emphasis on collaboration. Pre-existing trails from Ohio to Montana will be combined to complete the plan.

When finished, the trail will take travelers past countless locales. From the forests of Idaho to the High Plains of Nebraska, there’s much to see along the proposed route.
