There’s no doubt about it: the Hawaiian Islands is easily one of the greatest hiking destinations in the country — and maybe even the world. With miles and miles of trails that ascend mountains, traverse ridgelines, and lead to breathtaking natural beauty, Hawaii is truly a hiker’s paradise. But not all trails are created equal, and this gem that meanders through the forest to a stunning swimming hole is one of our current favorites.

Found near Oahu’s Pali Highway in the Nu’uanu neighborhood is the Judd Memorial Trail, a magical slice of forest paradise that awaits your arrival. This 1-mile look trail begins with a shallow river crossing and is perfect for families.

Stop to play in this wildly popular swimming hole, then it’s back to the initial stream crossing, and time to head home.

While this trail is short enough for families, you will encounter exposed tree roots, mud, and selective footholds in a few areas of sloped rocky terrain.

During the rainy season, and after periods of heavy rainfall, the trail gets slick, so please wear shoes with excellent traction, and simply take your time
