If there’s anyone on earth who doesn’t love alpacas we definitely have never met them. These animals are cute, fluffy and inquisitive making them the puppy of llama-looking creatures. We can’t resist the comparison between the two because they each might be some of the most wonderful creature on the planet. There are a few places in the state where you can stop by and visit with some alpacas, but we recommend you take things a step further by staying at this lovely bed and breakfast alpaca farm.

The Royalsborough Inn at the Bagley House, located in Durham, was built in 1772 and has a long and interesting history.

After Captain Bagley’s ownership, the home was owned by the Bliss family who ran a dairy farm here for 176 years.

In 1982, it was taken over by the Burns family and completely restored. And, in 1996 it was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

Today it’s owned by Marianne and Jim Roberts who are making good on a lifelong dream of owning a country bed and breakfast.

While you can choose to stay at the inn for any occasion, we love their special “farm experience” package.

In addition to two nights lodging, you’ll also have the opportunity to get up close and personal with farm life. This is great for folks who might want to test out the idea of running their own fiber farm.

Enjoy a multi-course breakfast before dabbling in some farm chores. But don’t worry about working too hard -this also includes a chance to greet the animals each morning

There also lessons about raising alpacas and about fiber products. And, of course there are plenty of chances for a photo with an alpaca.
