All of New Hampshire’s nature is likely to calm the soul, but some places just offer something a little more special. We’ve found those spots throughout the state. Most times, they’re in the most unexpected of spots. But, this one won’t come as much of a surprise to you. It’s meant to be a place of reflection – a place where you can take a break from the rest of the world and find a little peace. If you haven’t been, take a trip between May and October when it’s free for the public to visit.

Cathedral Pines is one of those places that you have to see in person.

It was created to honor Sandy Sloane, a World War 2 pilot who didn’t return home to New Hampshire after the war.

And today, the outdoor chapel exists for people of all faiths to come and appreciate the open air. It’s meant to serve as a memorial to wartime service.

The entire complex features a number of places for folks to worship and find comfort, but we especially love the Altar of the Nation which was dedicated in 1947 to honor all those killed in war.

The Women’s Memorial Bell Tower is also important, as it’s a memorial to all women who have helped serve the country.

Mother’s Chapel is another wonderful area, built to honor Peg Brummer, sister of Sandy Sloane.
