Rhode Island with its miles and miles of shoreline is home to a number of historic lighthouses — over 20 of these coastal treasures dot the landscape. Many are only viewable by boat, but if you’re willing to take a short hike, you can reach one of these guiding lights by foot. The walk to Castle Hill Lighthouse is a brief excursion but the views stretch on for miles and miles.
Built in 1890, Castle Hill Lighthouse is one of the iconic landmarks on the Ocean State shore. Nestled into the rocky coast of Newport it’s an active navigational aid for boats entering the east passage of the Narragansett Bay.

From the water, this lighthouse appears inaccessible tucked into the rocks. However, you can enjoy a walk to this isolated spot.

The tower is 34 feet tall and constructed out of granite blocks. Perched where the bay meets the shore, this spot is a well-loved haven for photographers.

Explorers love to visit this site by the sea. It’s a great place to prowl through the tidal pools looking for sea creatures and tiny fish.
