While most Minnesotans live in the Twin Cities metro area, there are plenty of wonderful cities and towns in other regions of the state. Duluth, St. Cloud, and Rochester are all have thriving population centers. And even beyond those smaller cities, tiny towns dot every region of Minnesota’s map. But only one can be the smallest town. Funkley, Minnesota, is a teeny-tiny town in the northern part of the state. It’s on the western edge of Beltrami County.

Once on the line of the Minnesota and International Railway, the town is now host to mostly car traffic.

Funkley is mostly a wide place in the road for those passing through. But that doesn’t mean it’s not an interesting spot.

Why? Because Funkley, Minnesota, is the least populated incorporated area in the state.
