In western Nebraska, the aesthetic of most restaurants is more cowboy than cosmopolitan. There are some outliers, though, like this charming wine bar, tapas restaurant, and retail store in Scottsbluff. It’s the kind of place you’d never expect to find in the panhandle, but once you find it you’ll want to keep going back over and over.

This unassuming former gas station is now The Tangled Tumbleweed, a locally-owned establishment that opened in June 2016.

The “small plates” designation is a bit misleading. These selections are no tiny appetizers; they’re enough to fill you up.

The selection is carefully curated so it’s full of wonderful finds, but not overwhelming in its scope. Be warned: it’s almost impossible to shop here without finding a treasure to take home.
