The Next Lunar Eclipse Is Visible From Nevada And You Ll Want To See It

It seems like the iconic solar eclipse of 2017 was just yesterday, doesn’t it? You probably remember the excitement surrounding that event. People planned entire trips just so they could get the best view of the natural phenomenon. It turns out another exciting eclipse is on its way, this time in lunar form, and Nevada is the perfect viewing ground for it! This lunar eclipse is going to occur in just a few weeks to be sure to mark your calendars now. This one-of-a-kind event is not to be missed.

People all across North American will be in for a real treat when they look up at the night sky on January 20-21. On this night, the sky will be dominated by a total lunar eclipse—the first of 2019 and the last lunar eclipse until 2021.

The event also happens to be concurrent with the year’s first full moon, also called a “wolf moon”. Additionally, it’s being categorized as both a supermoon and a blood moon, so many have dubbed this particular lunar eclipse a “super blood wolf moon”. Now, if that isn’t the coolest name for an eclipse, we don’t know what is!

The eclipse will be visible across all of North and South America, along with parts of western Europe and Africa. However, Nevada’s dark skies make it the perfect viewing spot for such a unique eclipse since it will be best viewed in low-light conditions.

The eclipse is expected to start at about 7:30 pm PST. The sun, moon, and earth will be perfectly aligned at 9:12 pm PST. This point is called “totality” and it’s when the earth’s shadow will cover the entire view of the moon.

Everywhere in Nevada with a clear sky will have a wonderful view of the eclipse, but we especially recommend heading to a particularly dark spot to view it. We recommend making a trip to Great Basin National Park since it’s been designated one of the darkest places in the nation.

The next total lunar eclipse isn’t expected to occur until May 26, 2021, so be sure not to miss this one. This is bound to be an extraordinary event that you remember for years to come.
