But they hold a beauty all their own, and they’re well worth exploring. Read on to learn about one of our favorite little-known parks in Minnesota. It offers spectacular views of the Mississippi River.
John A. Latsch State Park is one of the prettiest spots in southern Minnesota. It’s right on Highway 61, 17 miles north of Winona and 50 miles east of Rochester.

The park is comprised of 1,654 acres of wooded bluffs along the shores of the Mississippi River.

Those who visit have the privilege of spotting plenty of Minnesota wildlife. Coyotes, foxes, and snake make homes here. And thanks to its location on the river, many birds pass through the area.

Looking for wildlife is great, but the main activity in John A. Latsch? A half-mile hike to the top of Charity Bluff.

The hike is steep, so it will be too strenuous for some visitors. The hike is all stairs, so visitors are able to avoid the rutted, gravely paths found on many other climbs. But it’s important to pace yourself - it’s a long way up!
