While there is much to be said in Florida about hauntings in and around the state, nothing quite compares to this little story. Sure, we all know that St. Augustine has a creepy and haunted past, but what about other town that might not be so well known? In fact, this one particular small town in Florida has gained huge popularity with the spiritualist community, but is there more to the story?

The Cassadaga Spiritualist camp began around the late 1800s, after being founded by Georgia P. Colby, a trance medium from New York who once traveled the country performing seances and readings.

After Colby was contacted by the spirit of a Native American named Seneca, who was claiming to be Colby’s spirit guide, he traveled to Florida to found the spiritualist camp.

As the camp thrived for many years, attracting visitors and spiritualists from all over the globe, there were many people who were not happy with the refuge for mystics in their state.

There is even a graveside bench located in the town’s cemetery that is known as The Devil’s Chair, and is said that the Devil will often appear to anyone who is bold enough to sit.

Today, Cassadaga still exists offering up a variety of spiritual tours, seances, psychics, and mediums for anyone interested in visiting.

And while many Floridians still are met with apprehension when they hear the town’s name, it is up to the visitor to decide on whether or not the creepy history is a true misconception.
