The Hawaiian Islands aren’t necessarily known for killer Mexican food; in fact, it’s quite the opposite. Hawaii has a bad reputation as having notoriously sub-par Mexican food. But that doesn’t mean that you aren’t able to find some mouthwateringly delicious tacos — as long as you know where to look, that is. If you crave tacos as often as we do, you’ll want to head to this joint along Oahu’s northeastern coast as soon as possible. Not only will you find scrumptious food, but the view’s not too shabby either.

Welcome to North Shore Tacos, a Baja-style Mexican eatery famous for its award-winning fresh fish tacos and pineapple tiki drinks that’s a bit off the beaten path. While this family-owned restaurant has two locations — both along Kamehameha Highway on Oahu — today, we’re focusing on their Hau’ula location.

Utilizing fresh, sustainable ingredients, you can expect a homemade meal similar to what you might prepare for yourself at home using fresh meats and produce — but better, of course. Fish is fresh-caught and delivered daily, and sure to make your mouth water.

This scrumptious taco plate is served with two corn or flour tortilla tacos stacked with your choice of meat — fish, shrimp, steak, chicken, sweet pork, or beef — jack cheese, fresh lettuce, pico de gallo and their signature Surf Sauce. Add a side of rice and beans or chips and salsa for a delicious meal you’ll want to eat again and again.

We haven’t even mentioned the best part yet: North Shore Tacos is located right across from the beach, and you can easily enjoy a meal with a view — without the cost of a typical oceanfront restaurant. Full plates range in price from just $9 to $13.
