By now, you’ve likely explored the Cleveland, Columbus and Cincinnati zoos.
There’s one little-known zoo hiding in the Buckeye State that many Ohioans overlook, however. The Akron Zoo features a wide variety of exotic animals, beautiful gardens and even some rides that kids will absolutely love. It has everything you love about the big city zoos without the massive crowds. Here’s why this little-known zoo is perfect for your next family outing in Ohio:
The Akron Zoo makes the perfect day trip destination when you’re looking for a fun place the whole family can enjoy. If you aren’t from the area, it’s a hidden gem.
Heather O/Trip Advisor You’ll find it at 505 Euclid Ave., Akron, OH 44307.
You’ll observe lions and tigers and bears—and plenty of other fascinating species. During the winter season (November - March), admission is just $7 per person.
iparker5611/Trip Advisor The summer season lasts from April - October and admission is $12. You can visit from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. daily in the summer season and from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. daily during the winter season.
There are also plenty of underwater friends your little ones will love observing—and the Otter Slide is really cool. You can slide 24 feet through the river otter exhibit.
mishawnam/Trip Advisor Please note: The Otter Slide is closed during the snowy months, so be sure to call ahead and ask if it’s open if you plan on riding.
Kids can also board the A & K Wilber Express or take a ride on the Conservation Carousel for just $2.
