We are lucky in Connecticut to have a shoreline featuring a number of historic lighthouses — 22 of these coastal treasures. Many are only viewable by boat but if you’re willing to take a one-mile hike, you can reach one of these impressive structures by foot. The lighthouse walk offers unforgettable views and is one journey you’ll want to experience.
The Black Rock Harbor Lighthouse (also known as the Fayerweather Island Lighthouse) is located on Fayerweather Island at the end of a breakwater off of Seaside Park in Bridgeport.

The lighthouse was built in 1808 to guide ships into the deep harbor that was becoming a shipping center during that time.

The lighthouse was destroyed during a storm in 1821. The current stone tower was built to replace it and was erected in 1823.

This lighthouse walk gives you not one but two lighthouses! Beyond the Black Rock Harbor Lighthouse, you can see the Penfield Reef Lighthouse in the distance offshore.

The Black Rock Harbor Lighthouse is not open to the public, but you can walk around the outside. The light although deactivated in 1932, was relit in 2000 but is not used as a navigational aid.
