The full-sweltering summertime heat is here in Arkansas. This means all of our upcoming day trips and getaways should be right in or close to the water. Let’s beat the heat with this nighttime kayak tour under the full moon to see Arkansas in a whole different light.
A daytime paddle around your favorite state park is always a blast, especially during summer break.
Facebook/Lodges of Arkansas Lake Catherine State Park is our main focus for today’s article. It’s on the southern side of Hot Springs in the Ouachita Mountains. The park has all kinds of adventures from waterfall hikes to guided horseback rides but the daytime treks aren’t the only way to enjoy the area.

To have a completely different experience, try taking one of these full moon kayak tours.
TripAdvisor/Suzanne W The relaxing tour is much more of a float than a swift paddle around the perimeter. Admission is $8/person and kayaks, paddle, and life jacket are included.
The tours will begin at 8 pm and last about an hour.
Flickr/Jack Heddon This upcoming Lake Catherine tour is on July 16th, 2019. However, this isn’t the only park that will offer full moon tours during the summer. Hobbs State Park-Conservation Area as well as Woolly Hollow State Park will have tours soon. Head right here for more details.
It’ll be neat to see who else will be attending the tour.
Flickr/Sam Klein Shine your flashlight out to the treeline and see how many pairs of eyes reflect back. Deer, raccoon, owls, and other critters will be out in the forest.
This kayak tour isn’t the only way to enjoy the full moon around Hot Springs.
Facebook/Adventureworks Hot Springs Just 10 miles north of the Lake Catherine State Park is a fantastic zipline business called Advenutreworks. For $65 you can zip through the forest under the full moon. They offer this once a month at the moon’s peak so plan to attend either the July 13th, 2019 or August 17th, 2019 tours. For more information about the tour, visit their website.
Whether you’re taking the kayak or zip line (or both), this is a unique way to enjoy every bit of summer in the Natural State. Have you taken one of these tours before? Share you experience with us in the comments below! We’d love to see your nighttime photography in our Facebook Group, Arkansas Nature Lovers. You should join for your chance to be featured and to discover why there’s nothing better than Arkansas’ stunning nature.
