When the weather is hot, there’s no better way to cool off than at one of Utah’s outdoor swimming pools. There’s an incredible spring-fed pool that’s tucked away in a canyon near St. George, and it’s opening for the season soon. We can hardly wait to visit Veyo Pool & Crawdad Canyon!

You’ll find Veyo Pool & Crawdad Canyon about 20 miles north of St. George. Since the pool is located in a shady canyon, it’s typically 15-20 degrees cooler than St. George in the summer.

The spring-fed pool is always circulating with spring water that comes right out of the ground at 87-89 degrees Fahrenheit. The pool naturally maintains a temperature of around 84 degrees — warmer than Lake Powell. Go ahead, jump right in!

You can spend hours catching crawdads in the canyon. You’ll find dozens of these little critters hanging out here, and you can offer them bits of hot dog, then scoop ’em up with nets. Say hello to your new friends, then release them back into the creek so they can go about their day.

All that swimming, climbing, and crawdad catching is sure to fire up your appetite. The snack bar offers some seriously tasty morsels. Sink your teeth into a juicy burger or a hand-dipped corndog, and share an order of fries or onion rings.

For a special treat, you’ll want to try the volcano pie shake. This shake includes a full piece of pie (from Veyo Pies, no less), and it’s made with high-quality ice cream. It comes in several flavors, but the volcano pie is the most popular, and we sure can see why.
