Nature lovers have no excuse to stay indoors this season when there are so many wonderful events taking place. This winter festival at a nature preserve in Beecher, Illinois features just about everything that makes this season great. Check it out:
Taking place on Saturday, January 19, 2019, between noon and 4 p.m., the Goodenow Grove Nature Preserve will host its annual Snow Day Festival. It is absolutely free to enter and open to all ages.

The most exciting activity is the 40-foot sledding hill. Guests may bring their own plastic sleds or borrow tube sleds from the Plum Grove Nature Center.

Animal lovers will get a kick out of meeting Siberian husky sled dogs. These majestic creatures are beautiful and bred to be man’s best friend. This is a wonderful opportunity if you’ve never met a snow dog.

If you love nature, the snowshoe hikes will be up your alley. Even if there is not snow on the ground the day of the event, winter hikes will still go on.

If that weren’t enough, there will also be ice carving demonstrations to astound and amaze. Come see what incredible winter display comes out of a block of ice.

Additional attractions include free winter giveaways, s’mores, and arts and crafts. The theme of this year’s winter festival is “Frozen,” based on the hit Disney movie. Guests will get to take pictures with Elsa and Anna and sing-a-long to songs from the film.

Most activities take place in and around the Plum Creek Nature Center in northeast Illinois. All together, there are four miles of trails that wind around the 891 acres of forests, prairies, meadows, and marshes. It is open weekdays between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
