Not many people realize North Carolina is home to one of the longest islands in the U.S. Measuring 42 miles as the crow flies in a straight line, or 50 miles if following the shoreline, Hatteras Island is one of the natural wonders that make the Tar Heel State so spectacular.

Known as the “blue marlin capital” of the world, Hatteras Island is an Outer Banks paradise containing the longest stretch of beachfront paradise in North Carolina. Take a look at some of the best beachy spots to sink your toes in the sand on Hatteras Island:
