In 1872, Roger Williams Park Zoo opened its doors to the public. It is the country’s third oldest zoo and in its humble beginnings housed just a collection of small animals scattered throughout this park in Providence. Today, things are vastly different and you can see animals that you may never have encountered in person before. Let’s take a look at some of the residents of this amazing Rhode Island zoo.

One of the most entertaining characters at the zoo is the white-cheeked gibbon. You’d normally see this mammal monkeying around in the rainforest settings of Southeast Asia.

Also in the Rainforest Exhibit is a free-flight aviary where you can interact with a variety of birds, up close and personal. Kids and adults alike will love this experience.
