Embark on a daylong trip to Rocky Falls Shut-Ins, a waterfall-fed pool in Missouri that’s popular with visitors all year around.

Trip Advisor/Shannon64804 One of the first things you’ll probably notice is the reddish-brown color of the rocks of the waterfall. The rocks were formed more than 1.5 billion years ago.

But, during the warmer months, Missourians and travelers on the hunt for ways to stay cool head to the natural pool for a leisurely dip.

Getting to the falls is easy and fairly quick. Hike along the .01-mile Rocky Falls Shut-Ins Trail, that leads to the spectacular 40-foot waterfall.

Once there, be prepared for huge crowds, especially if you are visiting during the summer. Swim in the pool or climb up the rocks, where the water gushes down.

Of course, you can also visit — and climb the rocks — the rest of the year, too. Don’t be surprised, though, if the waterfall isn’t as strong in the colder months as it is in the warmer months.
