Wyomingites are lucky to have so much open space available to us, inviting us to lace up our hiking boots and explore. Medicine Bow National Forest is home to hundreds of miles of trails, and thousands of acres of beautiful, preserved public land, and if you’re looking for an outdoor adventure, head out on the Rock Creek Trail.
In the heart of this wild wonderland, you’ll find one of Wyoming’s hidden waterfalls.

Find the Rock Creek Trail near the junction of I-80 and WY-13, about 40 miles west of Laramie. You can park right at the Trailhead and head out on a trek.

You’ll find thousands of wildflowers along the path if you hike in late spring or early summer. Be careful with kids and dogs on the trail, as it’s narrow and there are frequent, steep drop-offs

At 1.5 miles into your hike, you’ll find an old miner cabin. Nearby, you can see evidence of the abandoned mine. There’s nothing like seeing some history while you hike!

The trail is not particularly difficult, but frequent rock slides can be a little challenging. If you have dogs, you may want to have boots or Musher’s Secret to protect their paws.

The hidden falls along the route are the highlight of each hiker’s day trip here. The bridges make for the perfect spot to stand over a towering cascade and truly feel the power of the rushing water.

The trail mostly follows Rock Creek, and many people use the 11 mile out-and-back trail as a backpacking and camping adventure.

You can also take a detour to camp at Crater Lake, and join other campers in relaxing deep in the heart of the Cowboy State.
