Prantl’s Bakery in Pittsburgh makes thumbprint cookies, using the original recipe, in more than 60 sensational flavors.

A Pittsburgh original, thumbprints first appeared in the city in 1980, made by Kevin Ulrich of Kaufmann’s Arcade Bakery. And, for decades, Pittsburghers frequented the Arcade Bakery to stock up on their favorite thumbprint cookies.

Then, Kaufmann’s - and with it Arcade Bakery - permanently closed its doors, leaving the famed thumbprints without a home.

But, that all changed in 2017 when Ulrich joined Prantl’s Bakery to make the famous thumbprint cookies, now available in more than 60 flavors.
