When most people think of heading to Table Rock State Park, the first thing that comes to mind is likely the enormous landmark that has forever loomed over the landscape along the Cherokee Foothills Scenic Byway. However, the two lakes at the state park are equally stunning. We especially like Pinnacle Lake, located on the same side of Highway 11 as is Table Rock.

The 36-acre lake rests at the base of the rock, between the visitors center and the summit of the Table Rock trail.

On any given day, you’ll encounter scores of people headed to the top of Table Rock, or on the other steep climbing trails in the park.

But there’s an easy trail for those days when you don’t have hours to spend hiking. The Lakeside Trail (also known as the Pinnacle Lake Loop Trail) is 1.8 mile loop that circles this little mountain oasis.

You’ll find several shady and quite spots to sit and relax while you take in the views. On the far side of the trail from the rock, you’ll encounter the majestic old Table Rock Lodge — still used as a meeting facility and for special events like weddings.

Once back over on the other side, a boat house, concessions stand, and the lake beach bath house line the shore.

In season, you can rent kayaks, canoes, pedal boats, or simply swim or bask in the sun on the sandy beach.
