Practically deserted, Georgetown is no stranger to dilapidated buildings. But hiding among those abandoned buildings is one of the state’s best restaurants. It’s so good, in fact, it attracts about 2,500 people a month! Take a look:
Georgetown is located in Copiah County about 29 miles south of Jackson. Because of its proximity to the Pearl River, it was once a thriving river town. But as time went on, river traffic began to dwindle - and so did the population.

Today, the town is home to about 280 residents and a nearly vacant main street lined with dilapidated buildings.

But it’s not completely vacant. Among the abandoned buildings, you’ll notice a brand new building, which houses Kountry Kitchen.

Though located in a new building, Kountry Kitchen has a lot of history in Georgetown. It first opened in 2010 but was destroyed by a fire a few years ago.

In an attempt to save the restaurant, which “has helped keep Georgetown on the map,” the city’s board and mayor decided to construct a new building solely for the purpose of leasing it to Kountry Kitchen.
