If you can’t remember the last time you took a vacation, you’re not alone. Travel + Leisure reported that 51 percent of Americans didn’t take a holiday in 2018. However, taking time off might be about to become just a bit easier for New Yorkers.

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has introduced a proposal that would guarantee residents of N.Y.C. a full two weeks of paid time off per year. This means that 500,000 people who currently do not have mandated paid time off would benefit from the new law.

The new proposal would also create guaranteed health care for city residents, with $100 million in funding going towards covering 600,000 New Yorkers without health insurance. Basically, the switch would mean more vacation time for employees and healthier city dwellers.

Though not everyone is on board with the new plan – small business owners are worried that the law would impact their bottom line – the move would help at least some Americans unplug from their jobs and boost employee satisfaction.
