With warmer weather on the way, we’ve got some really great news…Wharton State Forest (our largest state park) was recently expanded. We’re absolutely thrilled to hear that another piece of the Pinelands have been protected, and opened up for us to enjoy! All photos below were taken in Wharton State Forest. Isn’t it incredible?
Wharton State Forest is the single largest tract of land in the New Jersey State Parks System. It comes in at a whopping 122,800 acres.

For comparison’s sake, New Jersey’s second-largest state park is Brendan T. Byrne State Forest, coming in at around 37,000 acres.

The park is the site of Batsto Village, a former bog iron and glassmaking industrial center from 1766 to 1867 that currently reflects the agricultural and commercial enterprises that existed here during the late 19th century.

The new area of the park is open to the public for passive recreation and is located near the intersection of Chatsworth Road and Patty Bowker Road in Tabernacle.
