Slowly but surely the weather is getting warmer and that has us ready for the long days of summer! As we ease our way into that, we’ve made a long list of things we plan to do outside. Of course, we’ve got the beach at the top of the list. But taking up major space on our must-experience list are hikes throughout the state. While we always try new things, there’s one hike leading to a wonderful swimming hole that we do every single summer!

Baldface Circle Trail is a fairly simple route that covers about 1.6 miles on an out and back trail.

This shorter route is part of the larger Baldface Trail which ultimately takes hikers about 9 miles on a more challenging route.

Unless you’re feeling particularly ambitious, it’s going to be hard to talk yourself into that larger hike when beautiful Emerald Pool is seemingly just around the corner after leaving the trailhead.

The pool is fed by a lovely waterfall the winds its way through the boulders at one end of the swimming hole.

Somehow this makes the entire place feel magical - just like you’re in FernGully.

In addition to being a gorgeous color of green, the water is perfectly clear.

In most areas you can see clear through to the bottom.

And when the light is just right, the rocks at the bottom seem to glow.

The entire area is beautiful, making a day trip to the swimming hole a great idea. There’s plenty to see surrounding the area. We recommend taking a dip, doing some exploring and then finishing with another refreshing swim.

You’ll find Emerald Pool off of Route 16 between the Mt. Washington Auto Road and Wildcat Mountain. Address: 2223 Main Road, Chatham, NH 03813.
