Mooresville is a tiny town that’s located in Limestone County, Alabama. With only around 60 residents, it’s also one of the state’s smallest towns.

The moment you arrive in Mooresville, you can’t help but notice the town’s most charming features, including tree-lined streets, historic homes, white picket fences, etc. Without a doubt, this tiny town is Alabama’s very own Mayberry.

Even though Mooresville is considered one of Alabama’s most charming towns, it’s also one of the state’s most historic places to live or visit. Because it was incorporated on November 16, 1818, it’s one of Alabama’s oldest towns. An interesting fact about Mooresville is the entire town is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

One of the town’s most popular historic buildings is its post office. The Mooresville Post office was built circa 1840, which makes it Alabama’s oldest continually operating post office.

Other than its age, an interesting feature of this historic post office is its call boxes. Many of the call boxes existed before the American Civil War. In fact, many of the town’s families have owned the same call box for generations.

One of Mooresville’s churches that’s loaded with history is its Church of Christ. This white clapboard church, which was built in 1854, was originally the town’s meeting house for the Disciples of Christ. The most historic event to take place at this church occurred in 1863. This event was the preaching of General James A. Garfield. In 1881, he became the 20th president of the United States.

Andrew Johnson is another U.S. president with ties to Mooresville. Prior to becoming the 17th president of the United States, he lived in Mooresville while working as a tailor apprentice.

Another church that captures the attention of many town visitors is the historic Mooresville Brick Church. This beautiful church, which was built in 1839, was constructed from handmade bricks.

Mooresville’s Stagecoach Inn and Tavern is another building with a lot of history. Built in the early 1820s, it was the town’s original post office. It’s also been used as an inn, a china repair shop, etc. Today, the Stagecoach Inn and Tavern is operated as a museum, and it’s also Mooresville’s official town hall.
