With so many miles of shoreline in the Ocean State, we have beaches galore. From stretches of coast along the Atlantic to sandy bay beaches, everyone has their favorite. But perhaps the most unique and rockiest Rhode Island beach can be found on Block Island. It is a place full of rugged beauty unlike any other place in the state.
Mohegan Bluffs can be found on the south end of Block Island. The tall cliffs shelter a rocky beach that is one of the most beautiful on the island.

From the top of the cliffs, you’ll have a vista that extends across the Atlantic. On clear days it’s possible to see Montauk on the tip of Long Island to the southwest.

Reach the beach by descending a staircase of 141 steps. Make the effort and the payoff is spectacular as you’ll find yourself at one of the most dramatic spots on the coast.

The towering cliffs stand 200 feet tall sheltering the beach. Little by little the bluffs have receded and even the nearby Block Island Southeast Lighthouse had to be moved back about 360 feet to prevent it from tumbling into the Atlantic.
