Mallows Bay is located in Southern Maryland, right next to the Potomac River.

There are over 230 ships at this site, most of which were built during World War I. Many were deemed unusable, so they were set aflame and left abandoned in Mallows Bay.

According to Live Science, it was recently discovered that some of the ships continue to drift away from the mainland, possibly up to 20 miles!

And the most fascinating part is that this discovery was made by a class of fifth graders from the nearby J.C. Parks Elementary School. The class looked at old images on Google Earth to determine the movement.

The cause is likely from heavy storms, floods, and erosion that very slowly move the ships year by year.
