But, if we’re on the hunt for an adventurous day at what might fairly be called a natural playground, we only need to set off for Linn Run State Park near Pittsburgh.

Tucked in a 612-acre, partially forested area, Linn Run State Park promises plenty to do and to see. In fact, just expect the unexpected.

Cross a storybook wooden foot bridge that passes over a flowing stream. And, to snap photos of a streaming waterfall, embark on the 2.2-mile Adams Fall Loop Trail.

Of course, the highlight of the trail is its namesake, Adams Falls. Don’t expect a gushing waterfall, although the falls are much more powerful after a recent rainfall.

But, the waterfall is just one of many surprises Linn Run State Park holds. Come across the ruins of the McGinnis Rod and Gun Club, once a hunting lodge you can now explore.

And, lace up those hiking shoes for a journey along the .9-mile Beam Rock Trail, that will take you to a spectacular overlook with sweeping views of the park.
