There’s a thrift shop here in Cincinnati that’s a little bit different. Instead of traditional offerings, it’s chock-full of art supplies. That’s right – it’s an art supply thrift shop! Check out Indigo Hippo:

Indigo Hippo is a non-profit organization that has several goals, including offering art education, providing inexpensive art supplies to artists, and keeping materials from the waste stream. The shop opened in 2016, and it’s already diverted $157,000 worth of materials that would have ended up at the garbage dump.

Everything in the store is color coded with a suggested price, but here, you pay what you can. If you’re a struggling artist or educator, this place can be a real life-saver for creative materials.

Just like a traditional thrift shop, Indigo Hippo gets all its inventory from donations. Art supplies of all kinds come from members of the public, design professionals, and local organizations.
