We prefer our ice cream just like everything else here in Texas: real, no-frills, and served in overflowing portions. There are lots of little mom and pop shops that serve it up that way, but Hypnotic Emporium in Dallas is definitely one of the best. Not only is the ice cream decadent, delicious, and available in a variety of unique flavors, but the decor will remind you of an adorable old-fashioned diner.

Located right next door to and founded by the same owners as Hypnotic Donuts, this retro ice cream parlor was opened with a vision of recreating cherished childhood memories.

Upon walking in, you’ll immediately be reminded of Friday nights at the local soda fountain. Vintage candy is displayed on shelves far as the eye can see, and old-fashioned leather barstools beckon friends and family to sit down and share laughs and smiles over a delicious sundae.

As you can see, there’s no shortage of menu options to satisfy every palate. Malts, shakes, banana splits, and even hand-packed pints guarantee nobody leaves with anything less than exactly what they wanted. You can even order a donut ice cream sandwich made with warm, fresh pastries from next door!

Skimping on scoops is not a phrase in Hypnotic Emporium’s vocabulary. Cones - which come in waffle, pretzel, and cake varieties - are stacked to the ceiling with your choice of mouthwatering ice cream flavors. Small, medium, and large cups are offered as well if that’s your preferred vehicle to get ice cream to your mouth.

Toppings range from the usual suspects like hot fudge and caramel to more outlandish items such as fruity pebbles cereal. Build your very own custom creation, each bite delivering a unique taste sensation as different elements come together.

All hail the 20-scoop behemoth known as “Mt. Hypnotic.” This sugar coma of a food challenge includes whipped cream, chocolate fudge, caramel, Sixlets candy, peanuts, two Charleston Chew chocolate bars, and a donut. The sundae is free if you finish it under 15 minutes (or you can try to beat the current record of seven minutes, 54 seconds!)
