Sometimes, a restaurant is merely a place to refuel. Other times, however, a restaurant is a destination where the location and decor are as much of a reason to go as it is to satisfy your hunger. Such is the case at this roadside attraction/restaurant in North Carolina. You may initially pull over for the all of the iconic and eclectic decor found outside of (and on top of) the building but, once inside, you’ll stay for the kitschy decor, friendly service, and affordably priced, amazing food.

Today we’re featuring Harry’s Grill and Piggy’s Ice Cream in Hendersonville.

Google / maps It’s located a mere mile from Interstate 26, making it an ideal place to pull off on any trip for a bite to eat and some honest-to-goodness gawking at everything under the sun that can be found inside the establishment. (For the record, we love Harry’s and make it a point to stop anytime we’re in the area!)

Once you’ve wandered around outside admiring the roadside attractions Harry’s and Piggy’s has amassed over the last 40 years, head inside for another experience altogether.

Chris Thompson/Google You’ll find the register right under the giant Mt. Olive Pickle. Be sure to bring cash, as it’s cash only here. (If you forget, then there’s an ATM inside Harry’s.)

Before you place your order, be sure to search for the menu board on the wall.

Now comes the hard part: deciding where to sit.

Mike Barton/Google Harry’s is brimming with nostalgic figures from the past. Life-size figures dot the restaurant, including Ronald McDonald, Colonel Sanders, Merlin the Wizard, Spiderman, and more! And the walls and even the ceilings are covered with eclectic decor.

One thing is for sure: where ever you sit, you won’t be bored!

Debbie Hodge/Google Harry’s and Piggy’s collection of nostalgic items could easily fill an entire museum. You’ll be in awe of this roadside collection as you devour the flavorful food.

When you’re finished, head over to Piggy’s Ice Cream counter for hand-scooped dessert.
