In 1945, Greek immigrant Pete Savas decided to build a small market that would be a family business for his young sons to eventually take over. This photo shows Pete looking at the land that where he later built Grove Market.

In 1947, Grove Market opened. It offered fresh produce and grocery items, and quickly became a cherished part of the neighborhood.

Pete Savas passed away in 1957, but his sons did indeed take over the market, and the Savas family still runs it today. This wonderful photo shows Pete with his young son Jim in 1949.

Over the years, Grove Market has grown and changed. In the early 1970s, the deli was created inside. Grove Market is the oldest continuously operating deli in the state, and if you don’t already know about this hidden gem, you’re going to want to visit soon.
