Built almost 100 years before Rhode Island even became a state, The Great Friends Meeting House has been around for more than three centuries and it’s definitely worth a visit.
The Great Friends Meeting House was constructed in 1699. It was a meeting place for the Great Society of Friends, also known as Quakers, in Newport. It is the oldest house of worship in Rhode Island.

Four additions were made to the meeting house between 1730 and 1867. Today it still looks much the same as it did in the mid-1800s. It’s extraordinary that this structure has survived for hundreds of years.
